Original recipe for Spanish tortilla
Spanish tortilla, also known as tortilla de patatas, is a delicious and classic dish from Spain that is commonly served as a snack or light meal. Here’s a traditional recipe for Spanish tortilla:
Ingredients:
- 5 medium-sized potatoes, peeled and sliced
- 1 medium-sized onion, chopped
- 6 large eggs
- 1/2 cup olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
- Heat the olive oil in a large frying pan over medium heat.
- Add the sliced potatoes and chopped onion to the pan and stir until they are coated with the oil.
- Cover the pan and let the potatoes and onions cook slowly for about 20-25 minutes or until the potatoes are tender.
- Remove the pan from the heat and drain off any excess oil.
- Beat the eggs in a separate bowl and add salt and pepper to taste.
- Add the cooked potatoes and onions to the beaten eggs and stir until well combined.
- Heat the frying pan again over medium heat and add the egg mixture to the pan.
- Cook the tortilla for 3-4 minutes, or until the bottom is set.
- Flip the tortilla over by placing a large plate over the frying pan and inverting the pan to transfer the tortilla onto the plate. Then slide the tortilla back into the pan to cook the other side for another 2-3 minutes.
- Once the tortilla is fully cooked, transfer it onto a plate and let it cool for a few minutes before cutting it into wedges.
Serve the tortilla de patatas warm or at room temperature as a delicious appetizer or light meal. Enjoy!
